JT of the City Girls Shares Plan to Bypass UMG Dispute and Make Next Single a Viral Hit on TikTok
JT of the City Girls is not letting Universal Music Group’s decision to pull their music from TikTok stop her from creating a viral hit on the popular social media platform. The rapper took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share her plan of attack. She suggested that her fans put a “distorted” sound on the music to avoid being picked up by the platform’s algorithms and muted.
“Remember Iām with UMG so once song is out Tik Tok will be muted so try to get a distorted sound going I have one on my Tik Tok use it if you want or make your own IDC just spread the sound,” she tweeted.
Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, and other artists have also had their music removed from TikTok due to the dispute between the social media network and Universal Music Group. The two companies have failed to agree on a new deal relating to artist compensation and artificial intelligence, leading to UMG no longer licensing music to the app.
UMG penned a furious open letter to TikTok, accusing the platform of undervaluing music and shortchanging artists and songwriters. As of February 1, all videos containing music by UMG artists have been muted on TikTok.
Despite the challenges, JT is determined to make her next single a viral hit and is encouraging her fans to support her by pre-saving the track. With her innovative approach to bypassing the TikTok dispute, JT is showing that nothing can stop her from achieving success in the music industry.
