The upcoming “Rap 4 Peace: A Hip-Hop Gun Violence Awareness Conference” is set to make waves in Santa Monica, California on June 2, 2024. With a lineup of influential speakers and panelists, the event promises to shed light on the pressing issue of gun violence through the cultural lens of hip-hop.

The conference, organized by Hip Hop 4 Peace, the UNESCO Center for Peace, and the US Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers, and Associations, will kick off with registration at 8:00 am PDT, followed by opening ceremonies at 10:00 am PDT. Notable figures such as California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Latin American and Caribbean UNESCO President Katannia Plummer-Mitchell will take the stage to address the audience.

Throughout the day, attendees can expect insightful sessions on gun violence, mindset and mental wellness, and the impact of guns on vulnerable communities. Panelists including Lil Eazy E, NFL player Jaylon Johnson, and mental health expert Angelina Ruffin, PhD, will share their expertise and perspectives on these critical topics.

The conference will culminate in a special panel led by DJ Battlecat and a gala where the President’s Volunteer Service Award will be presented to individuals making exceptional contributions to volunteerism and peacebuilding. With sponsors like Deutsche Bank and the Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Research and Education on board, the event is poised to make a significant impact in the fight against gun violence.

Event creator Tina Marie Tyler emphasized the importance of addressing trauma as a root cause of gun violence in marginalized communities, highlighting hip-hop as a powerful tool for healing and social change. Public Enemy Founder Chuck D echoed this sentiment, calling on hip-hop to lead the way in promoting peace and unity in neighborhoods across the nation.
