Florida A&M University Receives Historic $237 Million Gift from Batterson Farms Corporation CEO
Florida A&M University (FAMU) received a historic gift of $237.75 million from the Issac Batterson 7th Family Trust and CEO Gregory Gerami, marking the largest single donation ever made to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The generous award, more than double FAMU’s total endowment, will have a transformative impact on the university’s resources.
FAMU President Larry Robinson expressed his gratitude, stating, “This gift is breathtaking in its generosity and its scope. It changes the narrative about what is possible for FAMU.” The donation will support academic and athletic programs, provide scholarships for students, and enhance the recruitment and retention of top faculty and students.
Gerami, the founder of Batterson Farms Corporation, emphasized the alignment of values between his organization and FAMU. He stated, “FAMU has become like a family to our Trust, our company, and to me. It’s also about making sure that we set FAMU on the path to being the top HBCU in this country.”
The gift will benefit FAMU’s Center for Disability Access and Resources, as well as the athletic program. FAMU Athletic Director Tiffani-Dawn Sykes highlighted the significant impact on the university’s sports programs, stating, “This donation substantially elevates the way FAMU athletes show up in the competition landscape. It will position us not only to compete but to dominate every time we step on the field and on the court.”
The historic donation from the Issac Batterson 7th Family Trust and Gregory Gerami represents a monumental boost for FAMU’s resources and sets the university on a path towards even greater success in the future.
