Marlon Wayans Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles and New Comedy Special

In a candid interview with the New York Times, actor and comedian Marlon Wayans opened up about his struggles with mental health following the deaths of his parents and nearly 60 other close individuals in a span of three years. Wayans revealed that he fell into a depression but has found growth and positivity in the midst of his grief.

“I miss my parents dearly, but I’m a different human with my parents gone than I was when they were here. Now I’m a man. I don’t have parents anymore, so I live differently. I understand the quality of life. I pray more, because when I pray I feel like I’m speaking to my parents and that they’re listening. I let them know what’s going on,” Wayans shared with NYT.

Despite his struggles, Wayans has channeled his pain into his upcoming comedy special, “Good Grief,” set to premiere on June 4 on Prime Video. Taped at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, the special will touch on the impact of losing both parents, as well as humorous topics like changing aging parents’ diapers and the requirements to join the ‘Dead Mama Club.’

Wayans’ journey through grief and mental health struggles serves as a reminder of the importance of open conversations and seeking help when needed. As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, his story is a powerful example of resilience and finding humor in the face of adversity.
