2024 Black College World Series Field Set: DII and NAIA Teams Ready for Action in Montgomery
The stage is set for the 2024 Black College World Series, with eight HBCU baseball programs and four Division II and four NAIA schools gearing up for the tournament in Montgomery, Alabama from May 8-11. The format for the event, now in its fourth year, will feature two divisions – one bracket of four NCAA Division II teams and one bracket of four NAIA teams, playing in a double-elimination format. The winners of each division will then face off in a one-game playoff to determine the ultimate champion.
In the Division II bracket, teams like Bluefield State, Savannah State, Edward Waters, and Miles College are set to compete. Bluefield State, the defending champions from 2021, are coming off a historic 30-win season, while Savannah State boasts a strong pitching staff under Head Coach Carlton Hardy. Edward Waters, winners of the 2022 Black College World Series, are looking to continue their success, while Miles College, with a new head coach in Milton Barney, will have a home-field advantage being just a two-hour drive away from Montgomery.
In the NAIA bracket, teams like Talladega, Wiley University, Florida Memorial, and Jarvis Christian will be vying for the title. Talladega, known for their competitive schedule and strong offense, will be a tough team to beat. Wiley University, with a deep pitching staff and potent offense, are battle-tested and ready for the challenge. Florida Memorial, the defending champions from 2023, will be looking to defend their title with wins against ranked teams in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll.
