Honoring Excellence: Inaugural HBCU Sports Awards Set to Recognize Athletes and Administrators

HBCU Sports founder and publisher Kenn Rashad is set to honor the unsung heroes of HBCU athletics with the inaugural HBCU Sports Awards in 2024. Rashad believes it is crucial to recognize the individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make HBCU sports successful.

Inspired by Jarrett Carter Sr.’s HBCU Digest Awards, Rashad decided to launch his own awards ceremony after nearly a decade of contemplation. He acknowledges the challenges faced by HBCU athletes and administrators who are often asked to do more with less resources.

The awards ceremony, scheduled for July 27, 2024, will celebrate the achievements of student-athletes, coaches, and administrators during the 2023-24 academic year. Rashad plans to announce the award categories by the end of May and nominations will follow in June.

With no current sponsors, Rashad emphasizes the grassroots nature of the event and encourages support from HBCU stakeholders. He believes that this event is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate their own.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for interested parties looking to support the HBCU Sports Awards. Those interested can contact Kenn Rashad at advertise@hbcusports.com to get involved in this groundbreaking event that aims to shine a spotlight on the hard work and dedication of those in the HBCU sports community.
