Family of Frank Tyson Makes Shocking Claim About Previous Law Enforcement Encounter; Calls for Justice and Accountability

The family of Frank Tyson, who died in police custody, has made a shocking claim about his previous deadly encounter with law enforcement. Tyson, who was released from prison two weeks before his death after serving a 24-year sentence, was accused by his family of being framed for the crime of grand theft auto and kidnapping. They presented evidence, including affidavits from witnesses who allegedly recanted their testimony, during a news conference on May 2.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump questioned, “What is worse, the wrongful conviction or the wrongful death?” as he highlighted the injustice faced by Tyson due to a flawed criminal justice system. Disturbing police body-cam footage captured the moment when Canton, Ohio police officers restrained Tyson, leading to his death. The video shows Tyson pleading that he can’t breathe while officers ignored his distress.

Rev. Al Sharpton, who delivered the eulogy at Tyson’s funeral, demanded accountability for the officers involved in his death. He emphasized the need for justice, especially considering Tyson’s questionable conviction and subsequent tragic demise. Additionally, it was revealed that one of the officers had credibility issues, raising further concerns about the handling of Tyson’s case.

The NAACP has called for a federal investigation into Tyson’s death, citing the disturbing parallels to previous cases of police brutality against unarmed Black individuals. The organization condemned the incident as “unconscionable” and emphasized the urgent need for accountability and reform within law enforcement.
