    Tennessee State University has made a groundbreaking move by hiring former WNBA All-Star Candice Dupree as its new women’s basketball coach. With an impressive playing career and experience as an NBA assistant coach, Dupree brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the program.

    Director of Athletics Mikki Allen expressed excitement about Dupree’s appointment, stating that her championship mindset and global influence will set the stage for unprecedented success at Tennessee State. Dupree, who had a stellar career at Temple University under the guidance of Dawn Staley, was drafted sixth overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2006 WNBA Draft.

    Throughout her 16-year WNBA career, Dupree achieved numerous accolades, including a WNBA championship in 2014 with the Phoenix Mercury. She ranks among the top players in WNBA history in categories such as made field goals, scoring, and total rebounds. After retiring from playing, Dupree participated in the NBA’s Coaching Development Program and served as a player development coach for the San Antonio Spurs.
