Love at First Sight: Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee’s Story

Acclaimed director Spike Lee and his wife Tonya Lewis Lee recently attended the 2nd Annual Academy Museum Gala at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, California. The power couple, known for their successful careers in the entertainment industry, looked stunning as they walked the red carpet together.

But what many may not know is the unconventional way in which Spike and Tonya first met. During a recent interview on the Kelly Corrigan Wonders podcast, Spike shared the story of how they crossed paths at the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C. He was there for a trailer screening of his film Malcolm X, but fate had other plans for him that night.

Despite being on a date with another woman, Spike couldn’t help but be drawn to Tonya when he first laid eyes on her. As they passed each other on escalators, Spike quickly came up with a clever excuse to turn back and ask for her number. The rest, as they say, is history.

The couple went on to tie the knot in 1993 and have since built a beautiful family together, with a son and daughter to show for their enduring love. Spike and Tonya’s love story serves as a reminder that sometimes, true love can find you when you least expect it.
