Shaw University Announces Changes to 2024 Football Schedule
Shaw University Football Announces Schedule Changes for 2024 Season
In a surprising turn of events, Shaw University announced changes to its 2024 football schedule on Thursday afternoon. The alterations were made in response to Saint Augustine’s decision earlier this spring not to field a football team this upcoming season.
The Bears will now kick off their season with a Week Zero matchup against Elizabeth City State. Shaw has a strong history against the Vikings, winning seven of their last ten meetings, including a close 20-17 victory last season. Despite Elizabeth City’s comeback attempt, Shaw managed to secure the win with a late onside kick recovery.
Additionally, Shaw’s game against Albany State has been rescheduled to September 7. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since 1977, with Albany State coming out on top in a dominant 45-6 victory.
The following weeks will see Shaw facing off against Catawba College and Lincoln (PA) in back-to-back home games, followed by matchups against Virginia Union, Bluefield State, and a series of road games against conference rivals Winston-Salem State, Johnson C. Smith, and Fayetteville State.
The Bears will conclude their regular season with a Homecoming game against Livingstone, seeking redemption after a heartbreaking 27-26 loss last year. With a 3-7 record in 2023, Shaw is determined to bounce back and achieve their first winning season since 2021.
Fans can expect an exciting season ahead as the Bears gear up to take on tough opponents and strive for success on the field. Stay tuned for more updates on season ticket information and game highlights. #BearWithUs #ShawU.
