Delaware State Baseball Team Advances to Northeast Conference Tournament Under Coach Blandin’s Leadership

The Delaware State baseball team is gearing up for the Northeast Conference baseball tournament with high hopes and a strong lineup. Head coach J.P. Blandin, in his final season before retirement, has led the Hornets to a 22-25 record, earning them the fifth seed in the tournament.

The Hornets will kick off their tournament run on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against No. 4 Wagner at Heritage Financial Ballpark in Wappinger Falls, New York. Blandin, with over 500 career wins and six division championships, has been instrumental in the team’s success this season.

Brothers Evan and Krew Bouldin have been standouts for the Hornets, with Krew leading the team in RBI and home runs, while Evan boasts an impressive batting average and leads the pitching staff in saves. The team’s starting pitching has been solid, with sophomore Kieran Etwaru undefeated at 7-0 and Jack Messmore leading in strikeouts.

In a late Tuesday announcement, four Hornets players were named to the all-Northeast Conference team, with Evan Bouldin earning conference player of the year and Etwaru named pitcher of the year. The team is poised for a strong showing in the double-elimination tournament, with a chance to make a deep run and end Blandin’s tenure on a high note.

The tournament format will see the top two seeds receive a first-round bye, while the Hornets will face off against Wagner in a crucial opening matchup. With their hot bats and timely pitching, Delaware State is ready to make a statement in the NEC tournament and compete for a championship title.
