Maryland Educator Under Investigation for TikTok Video Defends Actions
Marquise White, a Maryland educator at the Maya Angelou French Immersion School, has found himself in hot water after posting a controversial TikTok video. In the video, his young Black female students were seen taking out his braids, sparking outrage and leading to an investigation.
However, White seems to be unfazed by the criticism he has received. In a follow-up video, he defended his actions by claiming that the backlash was due to his race and attractiveness. He argued that if he were a white teacher, there would have been no issue.
White went on to say that his students were not fighting him and that he was simply creating bonds with them. He even compared his actions to other educators engaging in more inappropriate behavior, such as students smoking crack in the bathroom.
Despite his justifications, many have pointed out that students should never be put in a position where they are touching their teacher’s hair. The incident has raised concerns about boundaries and professionalism in the classroom.
As the investigation into White’s actions continues, it remains to be seen what consequences he may face. In the meantime, the controversy serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining appropriate relationships between educators and students.
