Sports fans, beware: Professional athletes may not always respond as expected
The world of professional sports can sometimes be a double-edged sword for fans, as one mother recently found out the hard way. Tamaria McRae is suing Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball, claiming that he ran over her 11-year-old son’s foot with his car, causing him to break his foot.
The incident allegedly occurred after an event organized by the team outside the arena. As players were leaving, fans, including McRae’s son Angell Joseph, tried to get their attention. Joseph reportedly asked Ball for an autograph, but Ball ignored him and drove off, running over the young boy’s foot in the process.
McRae claims that her son’s injury not only physically harmed him but also caused him to spiral into a deep depression. She expressed her shock and devastation, saying she couldn’t even recognize her own child after the incident.
In addition to suing Ball, McRae is also taking legal action against the Hornets, arguing that they should have had better security measures in place to prevent fans from getting too close to players.
Initially, the family planned to file a lawsuit against Ball’s insurance to cover Joseph’s medical bills, but they were unable to do so as Ball’s name and insurance information were not included in the police report. As a result, they are now pursuing legal action directly against the player.
This unfortunate incident serves as a cautionary tale for sports fans, reminding them to be mindful of their interactions with professional athletes, as things may not always go as planned.
