San Francisco Home of Terry Williams Set Ablaze After Racist Packages: Family Rescued by Firefighters
The home of Terry Williams, a lifelong resident of San Francisco’s Alamo Square neighborhood, was set ablaze on May 21, 2024, following a series of racist incidents. Williams, a professional dog walker, had been receiving racist packages in recent weeks, with the latest containing derogatory slurs and a doll with a noose around its neck.
Fortunately, Williams was not home at the time of the fire, but his elderly parents were rescued by firefighters. The family has lived in the neighborhood since the 1970s, but like many Black residents, they have faced challenges due to gentrification and rising housing costs.
Authorities are investigating the connection between the racist packages and the fire, but no suspects have been identified yet. Williams expressed his shock and regret over the incident, feeling like he could have done more to prevent it.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched to help the Williams family install security cameras on their property, and it quickly exceeded its $10,000 goal. The community has rallied around the family in support, showing solidarity in the face of such a heinous act.
As the investigation continues, the Williams family is grateful for the outpouring of support and remains determined to rebuild and move forward from this traumatic event.
