Unveiling of Giant Trading Card Honoring Baseball Legend Leroy “Satchel” Paige at Negro Leagues Baseball Museum

The unveiling of the giant trading card honoring baseball legend Leroy “Satchel” Paige at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum has sparked excitement and anticipation for the upcoming MLB at Rickwood Field event. The collaboration between the museum, FOX Sports, and Fanatics Collectibles has brought to life the larger-than-life figures of the Negro Leagues, starting with Satchel Paige.

The massive 24×16 ft trading card, weighing 8,000 lbs, was unveiled by former MLB player Micah Johnson using only his fingers, charcoal sticks, an eraser, and a paint roller. This unique tribute to Paige is just the beginning, as three more legends – Josh Gibson, Jackie Robinson, and Willie Mays – will also be featured on giant trading cards during a promotional tour at select MLB games and tourist destinations.

The special unveiling event at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum was a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of the Negro Leagues and its players. President Bob Kendrick expressed gratitude to FOX Sports, Fanatics Collectibles, and MLB for keeping the spirit of Black baseball alive. FOX Sports President of Marketing, Robert Gottlieb, also highlighted the importance of honoring the history of the league and its players with this larger-than-life activation.

The public activation window offered fans immersive experiences, including unique photo ops and a tour of the museum led by Bob Kendrick and Micah Johnson. The unveiling at Buck O’Neil Tribute Park was a memorable moment that celebrated the rich history of the Negro Leagues and the impact of players like Leroy “Satchel” Paige.
