Tory Lanez’s Appeal Delayed Again as Prosecutors Request Extension
Tory Lanez’s appeal of his conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion has hit another snag, as prosecutors have been granted an extension to respond to Lanez’s opening brief. The government initially requested more time back in March, and now they have until June 27 to file their answer.
Lanez’s appeal is based on claims of “Erroneous Admission of Evidence” and “Prosecutorial Misconduct,” with his legal team submitting a 103-page opening brief in late February. This filing builds on a habeas petition filed in December, which included a declaration from Lanez’s driver stating that he saw Lanez try to take a gun away from Megan’s friend before the shooting.
Despite the setback in the appeal process, Lanez was officially sent to prison in September to serve his time, following a sentencing of a decade behind bars. This marked the conclusion of the high-profile shooting case, in which Lanez was facing a maximum of 22 years and eight months, as well as deportation to Canada upon release.
Megan Thee Stallion has been vocal about the impact of the shooting, stating in a scathing written statement read in court that Lanez had made a mockery of her trauma and attempted to destroy her character. She expressed that she had not experienced peace since the incident and accused Lanez of spreading false information about the case through music releases and social media.
