Childish Gambino Collaborates on New Anime Series Yoppaman with Comedian Zack Fox

Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, has teamed up with comedian/musician Zack Fox to bring a wild new anime series called Yoppaman to life. The show, announced by Fox on Wednesday, features a zany animated humor that promises to be a unique and entertaining experience for viewers.

Yoppaman follows the story of employees at a dilapidated 24-hour diner who end up being enlisted to protect Earth in shiny bodysuits, reminiscent of The Power Rangers. The show is a blend of influences from Devilman, FLCL, Evangelion, 90’s Cartoon Network, and black southern folklore, music, comedy, and fashion.

Glover, along with his creative company GILGA, has been instrumental in helping Fox and his collaborator Chibu Okere develop the show. The duo funded a short pilot with their own resources to give viewers a taste of the universe they have created.

In addition to his work on Yoppaman, Childish Gambino has been busy with his own projects. He recently released Atavista, an updated version of his 2020 LP 3.15.20, featuring new vocals from Young Nudy. Glover is also set to release a second new album called Bando Stone in the New World, which will serve as the soundtrack for a film of the same name and mark his final release under his rap moniker.

Fans can also catch Childish Gambino on his New World Order Tour, a massive 58-date trek across North America, Europe, and Oceania from August 2024 to February 2025, where he will be joined by Willow Smith and Amaarae. With all these exciting projects in the works, it’s clear that Childish Gambino continues to push boundaries and captivate audiences with his creative endeavors.
