NFL Safety Antoine Bethea Gives Back to Hometown with SafeHaven Empowerment Center

Former Howard Bison legend and NFL safety Antoine Bethea is making waves off the field with his latest initiative in his hometown of Newport News, Virginia. After being inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame class of 2024, Bethea has announced the opening of the SafeHaven Empowerment Center, a community center aimed at supporting the youth in his community.

In an interview with WKTR-3, Bethea expressed his dedication to Newport News, stating, “Everything in me, I give to Newport News. For me, it’s important to impact people’s lives. Young boys and young girls that look like me, let them know I’m coming up in similar situations.” The SafeHaven Empowerment Center will offer a variety of resources, including technology and computer labs, a music studio, an eSports room, a culinary kitchen, and a clothes closet. Additionally, there will be medical access for young people, with plans to partner with a local hospital for free immunizations and physicals.

Bethea emphasized the importance of providing internet access to families in need, stating, “This will be a place where we can do that. I’m partnering with Best League Strategies, they’ll come in and offer cybersecurity, so there will be a lot of different things.” The center will also feature basketball courts and a swimming pool for the community to enjoy.

After a successful career in the NFL, Bethea is now focused on giving back to his community and providing opportunities for the next generation. With the opening of the SafeHaven Empowerment Center, Bethea is continuing to make a positive impact on the youth of Newport News.
