Swizz Beatz and Timbaland Face Backlash Over Verzuz Partnership with Elon Musk’s X App
The announcement of a new partnership between Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and Elon Musk has stirred up controversy and sparked backlash. The collaboration between Verzuz and X, Musk’s social media app, has raised eyebrows and drawn criticism from some quarters.
In a joint statement posted on their Instagram accounts, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland declared that Verzuz is now “100% Black owned again” and that they will be launching new entertainment businesses on the X platform. However, the move has not been well received by everyone, with some accusing the producers of trying to lure Black users back to a platform that they feel has become a haven for white supremacists.
Swizz Beatz responded to the backlash, defending his decision to partner with Musk and emphasizing his positive intentions. He pointed out that Verzuz has been on the X platform since its inception and urged critics to focus on changing what they don’t like rather than simply complaining about it.
Verzuz, which gained popularity during the pandemic with its Instagram Live battles between artists, faced a hiatus in 2022 due to a legal dispute with Triller. The lawsuit was settled in 2021, and Swizz and Timbaland have hinted at the platform’s return in 2023.
The partnership with Musk marks a new chapter for Verzuz, and it remains to be seen how the collaboration will unfold. Despite the controversy surrounding the announcement, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are forging ahead with their plans to bring Verzuz to the X platform.
