Terror in Bogalusa: Black Man Goes on Shooting Spree Targeting Children and Families

In a shocking turn of events, the Louisiana neighborhood of Bogalusa was rocked by a terrifying shooting spree in 2021, carried out by a Black man named Andrew Pernell. Pernell, a resident of Angie, targeted innocent children and families in the community, leaving a trail of fear and devastation in his wake.

The nightmare began when Pernell allegedly shot Bogalusa High School senior Aaron Brown as he walked home from school on August 23, 2021. The violence escalated the following month when Pernell drove down Main Street and fired 18 shots into a home where children were present, fortunately, no one was injured in that incident. However, a few days later, Pernell shot a 13-year-old boy as he got off the school bus, resulting in the child being airlifted for medical treatment.

After wrecking his car, Pernell was taken into custody by the police, who discovered evidence suggesting that the shooting spree may have been premeditated. Text messages from Pernell’s phone revealed chilling conversations with an accomplice named Jayden Brister, detailing plans for the shootings.

During the trial, Pernell’s disturbing behavior continued as he made gun gestures at young witnesses from his seat. Despite his callous demeanor, the jury wasted no time in delivering a guilty verdict on charges including second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, and assault by drive-by shooting.

Pernell’s reaction to the verdict, laughing in the face of justice, only added to the horror of the situation. He now faces a life sentence in prison for his heinous crimes, bringing a sense of closure and justice to the traumatized community of Bogalusa.
