The Impact of AI on Society: From Entertainment to Ethics

Artificial intelligence (AI) is all around us, from unlocking our phones with facial recognition to scrolling through social media. It has become an invisible assistant that we rely on daily. But beyond the convenience, AI is also making its mark in the entertainment industry in surprising and sometimes deceptive ways.

In a recent music video by Kendrick Lamar, AI was used as part of the artistic statement, blurring the lines between reality and technology. However, the darker side of AI was also revealed when an AI-generated diss track using Lamar’s voice fooled many into believing it was real, raising concerns about ethics in music production.

But the impact of AI goes beyond pop culture. In the real world, AI is exacerbating societal biases, particularly affecting Black individuals. From facial recognition technology that is less accurate for Black faces to hiring processes that exclude qualified Black candidates, AI is perpetuating systemic inequalities.

It is crucial that we pay attention to the implications of AI on our society. AI systems can misrepresent our culture, spread misinformation, and perpetuate harmful stereotypes. Companies involved in training AI models also bear responsibility in addressing racial biases and ensuring fair representation.

To ensure that AI works for the betterment of our culture, we must demand better representation in the tech industry and actively participate in the development and implementation of AI technologies. By staying informed, getting involved, and being proactive, we can shape the future of AI to work for us, not against us.
