DJ Quik Regrets Missing Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Pop Out’ Concert and Explains Why He Cried
DJ Quik was left in tears over Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Pop Out’ concert in Los Angeles last month, but it wasn’t tears of joy. The West Coast legend revealed that he was unable to attend the explosive show due to a prior commitment, leaving him feeling salty and envious of those who were able to witness the unity and star-studded performances.
Speaking at the 2024 BET Awards, DJ Quik confessed that he was in Canada with Snoop Dogg for their summer tour and missed out on the historic event. Despite Snoop’s attempt to charter a jet back to Southern California for the concert, logistical issues prevented them from making it in time.
The ‘Pop Out’ concert, which took place on Juneteenth at the Forum in Inglewood, featured appearances from Dr. Dre, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Tyler, the Creator, YG, and Roddy Ricch, as well as a powerful moment where members of the Crips and Bloods came together on stage.
Although DJ Quik wasn’t physically present, Snoop Dogg expressed his admiration for the unity displayed at the event in an Instagram video from Canada. Kendrick Lamar and his company pgLang, along with special guests, made a $200,000 donation to 20 LA-based charities and community initiatives, showcasing their commitment to giving back to the community.
Despite missing out on the ‘Pop Out’ concert, DJ Quik and Snoop Dogg were moved by the unity and love displayed on stage, reinforcing the importance of bringing people together in peace and solidarity.
