Subway Wedding Reception on the L Train: A Unique Celebration in New York City
A couple in New York City decided to take their wedding reception to the next level by celebrating on the L train, and the video of the event has gone viral on TikTok.
Daniel Jean and Esmy Valdez got married in a private church ceremony on June 27, but opted to have their reception on the subway to save money. With 20 guests in tow, the couple brought the party to the train, much to the surprise and delight of their fellow passengers.
The cost of weddings in New York City can be exorbitant, with the average price tag coming in at $63,000 in 2023. Jean, wanting to give his wife the reception of her dreams, enlisted the help of his friend Jodell Lewis and a wedding planner to pull off the unconventional celebration.
The video posted on TikTok shows riders grooving to Snoop Dogg in a subway car adorned with balloons and sunflowers. The festive atmosphere and the sight of a cake on the table in the middle of the car have garnered plenty of positive reactions from viewers.
Comments on the video express envy from those who weren’t lucky enough to be on the L train that day, with one user saying, “The way this would have made me cry tears of joy to be on this train!! I love it here so much!” Another commenter joked, “I’d be riding long enough to get a piece of cake.”
The subway wedding reception may not have been what the couple initially envisioned, but it certainly turned out to be a memorable and joyous occasion for all involved.
