Deion Sanders Highlights Unique Challenges and Successes at Big 12 Media Days

Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, made a splash at his first Big 12 media days appearance by highlighting the unique challenges he faces as a coach. Sanders, a Pro Football Hall of Fame player, emphasized that his wins are judged on a different scale compared to other coaches in the league.

Sanders touted the team’s academic achievements, including a high GPA and a 20% increase in student applications to Colorado. Despite a 4-8 record in his first season with the Buffaloes, Sanders remains focused on excelling in all areas, not just on the field.

Sanders’ sons, Shedeur and Shilo, also made an appearance at Big 12 media days. Shedeur, the senior quarterback, set a school record for passing yards in his first season at the FBS level but also faced challenges, including being the most-sacked quarterback in the country. Shilo, a graduate safety, is currently going through a bankruptcy case stemming from an alleged assault when he was 15 years old.

Despite the personal challenges, Sanders remains grateful for the support he has received from other coaches in the league, including Gus Malzahn and Joey McGuire. The Buffaloes are gearing up for the upcoming season, with their first game against North Dakota State on August 29. The Big 12 will also expand to a 16-team league with the addition of Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah.

Overall, Sanders’ presence in the Big 12 brings a new energy and perspective to the conference, and his commitment to excellence both on and off the field is sure to make an impact in the upcoming season.
