Allegations of Abuse and Negligence Rock Delaware State Women’s Lacrosse Program

The Delaware State women’s lacrosse team faced more than just a tough loss after their match against Fairleigh Dickinson. Reports of alleged punishment and abuse surfaced, leading to significant changes within the program.

According to Lacrosse Extras, players were forced to endure grueling punishment following the 14-10 defeat. Video footage showed coaches making players roll up and down the field during practice as a form of retribution.

Three parents, speaking anonymously, detailed the alleged abuse by former head coach Pamella Jenkins and assistant coach Jovan Estrada. They claimed that a stranger, brought in by Coach Estrada, subjected the girls to physical and verbal abuse during a practice session.

After reaching out to Delaware State administration, the parents initially faced resistance. However, the school eventually took action, firing Estrada and placing Jenkins on leave for the remainder of the season.

Despite these changes, parents expressed concerns about the treatment of current players. Allegations were made that the athletics director, Alecia Shields-Gadson, was making drastic changes to the team, including altering scholarship allotments without informing the players.

The fallout from these events has left the women’s lacrosse program in a state of uncertainty. With the head coach position listed as “to be announced,” it remains to be seen how Delaware State will move forward and address the allegations of abuse and mistreatment within the team.
