Meagan Good Praises Tyler Perry for Paying Black Actresses Their True Worth
Meagan Good, the talented actress known for her roles in various films and TV shows, is the latest star to praise Tyler Perry for paying Black actresses their true worth. Good, who stars in Perry’s new Prime Video film, “Divorce in the Black,” recently shared her experience working with the Atlanta-based mogul on the talk show “Today With Hoda & Jenna.”
During the interview, Good revealed that Perry was the first person to pay her what she truly deserved, breaking the standard she had been used to in the industry. She expressed her gratitude for Perry’s recognition of her value and recounted how emotional she felt when he told her, “You deserve this.”
Good’s testimonial adds to a growing list of leading ladies who have commended Perry for his commitment to paying Black actresses fairly. In 2019, Taraji P. Henson, an Oscar nominee and frequent collaborator of Perry’s, shared how he was the first person to give her the salary she had been asking for.
Perry’s advocacy for fair pay in Hollywood extends beyond just actresses. In 2022, he publicly supported the late Cicely Tyson, ensuring that the legendary actress felt valued and appreciated for her contributions to the industry.
Despite facing criticism for speaking out about the inequities in pay for Black actresses, Henson found support from fellow actresses like Gabrielle Union, Keke Palmer, and Robin Thede. Good’s own experience with Perry reflects a positive shift in the industry towards recognizing and compensating Black talent appropriately.
As a seasoned actress with over 30 years of experience, Good’s acknowledgment of Perry’s efforts highlights the importance of fair pay and representation for Black actors and actresses in Hollywood.
