15 Years Without the King of Pop: Katherine Jackson Continues Legal Battle Over Michael Jackson’s Estate
It has been 15 years since the world lost the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, but the drama surrounding his estate continues to unfold. Recently, Michael’s mother, Katherine Jackson, has been in a legal battle with the estate controllers over the sale of half of the late singer’s music catalog to Sony Music Group for $600 million.
Katherine’s lawyers argued that the estate should be held in contempt for finalizing the deal with Sony while her initial objection was still being disputed. They claimed that the sale violated Michael’s wishes as stated in his will, which instructed the executors to sell off as little of the estate as possible after paying legitimate debts.
Despite Katherine’s efforts to challenge the sale, the appellate panel ruled in favor of the estate controllers, Attorney John Branca and A&R executive John McClain. The judges stated that the probate court’s order did not violate the terms of Michael’s will, leaving Katherine feeling “Speechless.”
The ongoing legal battles between Michael’s estate and his family are expected to continue, with the heirs to the estate, including Katherine and Michael’s three children, having to wait for the probate court case to close before any resolution is reached.
As the 90-day period for the appellate panel’s opinion to take effect begins, the future of Michael Jackson’s estate remains uncertain, with the legacy of the King of Pop still at the center of a contentious legal dispute.
