Former Hampton Track and Field Athletes Chidi Okezie and Edose Ibadin to Compete for Nigeria at Paris Olympics
Former Hampton track and field athletes Chidi Okezie and Edose Ibadin are gearing up to represent Nigeria at the upcoming Paris Olympics. Both athletes were trained by head coach Maurice Pierce during their time at Hampton University.
Okezie, a 2015 graduate, has qualified for Nigeria’s 4x400m relay team, the mixed 4x400m relay squad, and the 400m individual event. He was a standout sprinter at Hampton, earning All-American honors and All-MEAC recognition in multiple events. Okezie also has a successful international track record, including a gold medal win at the 2012 World Junior Championships and a bronze medal at the 2018 African Championships.
Ibadin, also a 2015 graduate, will be competing in the 800m event for Nigeria. He holds the Nigerian record in the 800m and was part of the gold medal-winning 4x100m relay team at the 2023 African Games.
The schedule for their events at the Paris Olympics is as follows:
– Aug 2: Chidi Okezie will compete in the mixed 4x400m relay
– Aug 7: Edose Ibadin will participate in the 800m race
Both athletes have a strong track record and are expected to perform well at the Olympics. The Hampton University athletics department is proud to see their former athletes excel on the international stage.
