Release of Horrid Footage from June Police Shooting in Milwaukee that Claimed Unborn Baby’s Life
The release of harrowing police footage from a June shooting in Milwaukee has left family members reeling. The incident, which took place on June 20 at the corner of N. 17th Street and W. Vliet Street, resulted in the death of an unborn baby and has sparked controversy.
Authorities were in pursuit of a vehicle believed to be connected to two attempted armed carjackings. The chase ended when the car was blocked by a cement truck, and officers approached the vehicle, which was carrying six teenagers. The driver, 17-year-old Calveyon Jeans, allegedly reversed the vehicle, hitting a squad car and then drove forward and reversed again, striking two of the teens, including his 18-year-old girlfriend who was six months pregnant.
The newly released police footage shows the chaotic events leading up to the shooting, with the vehicle speeding off, making dangerous maneuvers, and eventually coming to a stop in a construction lane. As officers approached with guns drawn, one officer fired into the driver’s window, injuring three teens.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the officer involved has been placed on administrative duty, and Jeans is facing multiple charges, including second-degree recklessly endangering safety and armed robbery. His family is questioning the use of deadly force in the situation, as the police department’s policy prohibits firing at moving vehicles unless there is a perceived threat to the officer or others.
The tragic outcome of this incident has left a community in mourning and raised important questions about police tactics and the use of force in high-pressure situations.
