Rebuilt Jackie Robinson Statue Unveiled in Kansas Park

The community of Wichita, Kansas, is celebrating the return of a beloved statue of baseball legend Jackie Robinson, which was recently replaced after being stolen and destroyed earlier this year. The original statue, which depicted Robinson resting a bat on his shoulder, was a symbol of hope and inspiration for the children of League 42, a youth baseball league named after Robinson’s uniform number with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The theft of the statue left many in the community feeling disheartened, but thanks to the generosity of people from across the country, a new statue now stands in its place at McAdams Park. The outpouring of support not only funded the replacement statue but also led to improvements in the park and the league’s facilities.

Former Major League Baseball players, including CC Sabathia and Dellin Betances, joined Little League players for a ceremony to unveil the new statue, which is identical to the original. The mold for the statue was still viable, allowing for an exact replica to be created.

The man responsible for the theft, Ricky Alderete, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison for his actions. Despite the loss of the original statue, the community found solace in the fact that Robinson’s legacy lives on, both in the rebuilt statue and in the hearts of those who continue to be inspired by his contributions to the civil rights movement.

The return of the statue serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, there are always more good people in the world than bad. The community of Wichita has once again found faith in humanity, thanks to the kindness and generosity of those who rallied together to ensure that Jackie Robinson’s memory endures for generations to come.
