Drama Series Star Arrested in Connection to Fatal Shooting in Texas
Texas authorities have made a shocking arrest in connection to a fatal shooting outside an apartment complex in East Harris County. The suspect they apprehended is none other than 21-year-old Akili McDowell, a rising star known for his role in a Tarell Alvin McCraney-written drama series on OWN.
The incident occurred on July 20 when deputies responded to a shooting at 13503 North Thorntree. They discovered 20-year-old Cesar Peralta with multiple gunshot wounds, and sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspects fled, sparking a weeks-long manhunt that ultimately led to McDowell’s arrest.
McDowell gained fame for his portrayal of David in the coming-of-age drama series “David Makes Man,” which premiered in 2019. He was previously featured in PEOPLE’s “One to Watch” franchise as a promising young talent. However, his career has taken a dark turn with his involvement in this tragic incident.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed McDowell’s arrest and stated that the investigation is ongoing to locate any other potential suspects. McDowell was booked on a $400,000 bond for a murder charge and faces a separate theft charge as well.
Despite his legal troubles, McDowell recently appeared in the film “The Waterboyz,” which premiered at the American Black Film Festival. As the case unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
