Tragic Death of Five-Year-Old La’Rayah Davis: Father Seeks Justice for Daughter
Five-year-old La’Rayah Davis tragically lost her life in the midst of a custody battle between her parents, Daunan Davis and Amy Taylor. The young girl was found unresponsive in the Las Vegas home of former NFL running back Cierre Wood, leading to a heartbreaking series of events that culminated in her death on April 9, 2019.
After an investigation, both Taylor and her boyfriend, Wood, were arrested and charged with murder. Five years later, Wood, now 33, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse. The court documents revealed the horrific extent of La’Rayah’s injuries, including blunt force trauma, a lacerated liver, 20 rib fractures, internal bleeding, skull injuries, and bruises to her heart, diaphragm, and connective tissue.
Wood admitted to forcing La’Rayah to exercise as punishment, believing she was overweight. Taylor also confessed to abusing her daughter, even sitting on her chest and stomach as a form of punishment. La’Rayah’s father expressed his hope that both Wood and Taylor would receive the death penalty, stating that they did not deserve to be around anymore.
Despite his guilty plea, Wood will be eligible for parole after ten years in prison. Taylor also pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse. The tragic case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable children and seeking justice for those who have been harmed.
