Florida A&M Rattlers Name Daniel Richardson as Starting Quarterback Ahead of 2024 Season Debut
The Florida A&M Rattlers have made a decisive choice for their starting quarterback position ahead of the 2024 football season. FBS transfer Daniel Richardson has been named as the starting QB, beating out veteran Junior Muratovic and North Carolina A&T transfer Alston Hooker for the position.
Richardson, who is entering his final year of eligibility, had an impressive 2021 season with 2,633 passing yards, a 60% completion rate, and 24 touchdowns with only six interceptions. FAMU head coach James Colzie III announced the decision on his weekly coaches show, praising Richardson’s performance during training camp.
Having previously played at Central Michigan and Florida Atlantic, Richardson is no stranger to success on the field. In his lone season with Florida Atlantic, he recorded his second 2,000-yard season, completing 65% of his passes and scoring 13 touchdowns.
Richardson will be taking over the starting quarterback role from the reigning SWAC Offensive Player of the Year Jeremy Moussa. The Rattlers are also adjusting to a new head coach after Willie Simmons left for a position at Duke.
Coming off a successful 2023 season where they claimed their first SWAC championship and won the Celebration Bowl, the Rattlers are looking to continue their winning streak. They kick off their season this Saturday in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge against Norfolk State, aiming to defend their title and make a strong start to the 2024 season.
