Norfolk State Football Coach Dawson Odums Prepared for Season Without Otto Kuhns
Norfolk State Football Prepares for Season Opener Without Starting Quarterback
Norfolk State head football coach Dawson Odums and his staff have been preparing for the upcoming 2024 season knowing they may have to start without their starting quarterback, Otto Kuhns. Kuhns is facing a four-game ineligibility status, prompting the Spartans to recruit Jalen Daniels, a talented sophomore from Garden City Community College.
Despite the setback, Odums expressed confidence in Daniels, who has been with the team since the summer and has shown great potential. Daniels, a Meza, Arizona native, impressed at Garden City Community College last season, throwing for 1282 yards and nine touchdowns.
Odums and his staff were proactive in their approach, understanding the possibility of Kuhns’ ineligibility and ensuring they had a plan in place. They scouted for quarterbacks and are pleased with Daniels’ performance and readiness to lead the team.
“We had a plan in place; we navigated it, we won’t lose him for the season, and he’ll rejoin us after four games,” Odums stated. “Jalen Daniels is going to start for us. He’s excited, and this football team is excited about the opportunity that’s in front of us.”
The Spartans will face off against HBCU national champion Florida A&M in the Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge, with Daniels set to make his debut as the starting quarterback. Odums emphasized the team’s preparedness and determination to succeed despite the challenges they face.
With Kuhns’ eligibility issues addressed, Norfolk State is focused on starting the season strong under Daniels’ leadership. The team is eager to showcase Daniels’ talent and compete at a high level in the upcoming games.
