Mysterious Death of North Carolina Woman on Haiti Retreat Raises Questions
A North Carolina man is left grappling with the mysterious death of his mother after she embarked on a trip to Haiti for a religious retreat. Dana Jackson, a 51-year-old woman who had been practicing the religion of Vodou for the past four years, traveled to Haiti for a month-long retreat with a group called “Sosyete.” Her son, Timothy, shared with USA TODAY that his mother aspired to be a Manbo, or priestess, in the religion.
However, the details surrounding Jackson’s death are nothing short of puzzling. Timothy became suspicious towards the end of the retreat when his mother stopped communicating with him. The last message he received from her on July 21 asked him to pray for her. On July 22, Timothy learned from his grandmother that his mother had passed away while on the trip.
As Timothy delved into the circumstances surrounding his mother’s death, he encountered several red flags. Members of the group claimed that Jackson became seriously ill during a ritual ceremony, fainted, and later suffered a heart attack, multiple seizures, and a stroke before passing away. However, Timothy was told that his mother had forgotten to pack her medication, raising suspicions of foul play.
Timothy is now seeking answers and is determined to uncover the truth behind his mother’s mysterious death. He has expressed concerns about the lack of communication from the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince and is considering obtaining an independent autopsy to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his mother’s passing. The family is left grappling with the loss of their loved one and the unanswered questions surrounding her tragic death.
