Teenager Sues Detroit Judge for Humiliation and False Arrest During Field Trip

A Detroit teenager’s field trip to a local court turned into a nightmare when she was ordered into jail clothes and handcuffs by Judge Kenneth King. The incident, which occurred on August 13, has now resulted in a lawsuit being filed against the judge for humiliation, false arrest, and unlawful detention.

Fifteen-year-old Eva Goodman was singled out by Judge King for falling asleep and allegedly having a bad attitude during the field trip organized by The Greening of Detroit. The judge’s actions, which were broadcast on livestream video, have been described as extreme and outrageous by Goodman’s attorneys, who are seeking more than $75,000 in damages.

King, who has been removed from courtroom duties pending training, defended his actions by stating that he wanted the experience to feel real to Goodman, even though there was no real chance of her being put in jail. However, Goodman’s mother, Latoreya Till, has expressed the devastating impact the incident has had on her daughter, who is now struggling with fear and anxiety.

The lawsuit accuses Judge King of acting as producer, broadcaster, complaining witness, arresting officer, finder of fact, judge, and disciplinarian all in one. Despite the judge’s intentions, the consequences of his actions have left a lasting impact on Goodman and her family. The case serves as a reminder of the power dynamics at play in the justice system and the need for accountability and respect for all individuals, regardless of their circumstances.
