Former HBCU Football Players Roster Status for the NFL Season

As the NFL preseason comes to a close, teams are faced with the difficult task of finalizing their active 53-man rosters. For former HBCU football players, this time is crucial as they await news on their roster status.

Several former HBCU standouts have secured spots on the 53-man roster, including offensive lineman Terron Armstead from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, who will be playing for the Miami Dolphins. Safety Markquese Bell from Florida A&M has been signed by the Dallas Cowboys, while linebacker Quinton Bell from Prairie View A&M will suit up for the Miami Dolphins.

Other notable players who have made the cut include cornerback Isaiah Bolden from Jackson State (New England Patriots), linebacker Claudin Cherelus from Alcorn State (Carolina Panthers), and punter Jamie Gillan from Arkansas-Pine Bluff (New York Giants).

Unfortunately, not every former HBCU player received good news, as some were cut from their respective teams. Cornerback Willie Drew from Virginia State was let go by the Carolina Panthers, wide receiver OJ Hilaire from Alabama A&M was cut by the Atlanta Falcons, and cornerback Mikey Victor from Alabama State was waived by the New England Patriots.

Despite the tough decisions that come with finalizing rosters, many former HBCU players have shown their talent and determination throughout the preseason. Whether they have secured a spot on the 53-man roster, been claimed off waivers, signed to the practice squad, or placed on injured reserve, these players continue to make their mark in the NFL.
