GloRilla Honored with Key to the City of Memphis on 901 Day
Memphis rapper GloRilla was recently honored in her hometown with a key to the city on September 1, also known as ‘901 Day’ in the 901 area code. The CMG artist received the key to Bluff City surrounded by Memphis Mayor Paul Young, rapper/songwriter Kia Shine, and other supporters.
Taking to Instagram to share her excitement, Glo expressed her gratitude, saying, “Memphis made me Frayser raised me [teary eyed emoji] I got da key to my cityyyyy ahhhhh [celebration emojis] Happy 901 day MEMPHIS!!!!!!”
In addition to this achievement, GloRilla recently faced criticism for her use of a controversial word in a song snippet she shared on social media. Responding to the feedback, she replaced the offending word with a more appropriate phrase, “go naughty,” in a revised version of the song. Fans praised her for listening to their concerns and making the change.
Furthermore, Glo addressed rumors of being sexualized by her label, CMG, in a video where she confidently asserted her autonomy and ownership over her body. She dismissed the notion that the label was dictating her actions, stating, “A hoe gonna be a hoe,” and emphasized that she is in control of her own image.
With her key to the city and her willingness to listen and respond to criticism, GloRilla continues to make waves in the music industry and stand up for herself in the face of controversy.
