University of South Carolina Forward Ashlyn Watkins Faces Kidnapping and Assault Allegations

University of South Carolina (USC) forward Ashlyn Watkins is making headlines for all the wrong reasons just two months before the start of her junior season with the women’s basketball team. The 20-year-old athlete was arrested on Aug. 31 on charges of kidnapping and assault and battery, according to CNN.

The incident reportedly took place on the third floor of an on-campus apartment complex where Watkins was found with a minor victim, whose identity has not been disclosed. Watkins claimed she was trying to prevent the victim from jumping off a ledge, while the victim alleged she was trying to escape from Watkins after a heated argument.

The police report revealed that Watkins referred to the victim as her girlfriend and the altercation ensued when Watkins accused the victim of cheating on her. Despite conflicting statements from both parties, the victim denied any suicidal intentions and was cleared by EMS without transport.

Watkins was granted a $30,000 personal recognizance bond and ordered to stay away from the victim. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 25 and has been allowed to travel out of state for basketball-related activities.

The shocking allegations against Watkins have cast a shadow over her upcoming season and raised concerns about her behavior off the court. As the legal proceedings unfold, the USC community and basketball fans await further developments in this troubling case.
