Delaware State Football Team Overcomes Adversity and Gains Strength from Hawaiian Experience
The Delaware State football team has proven their resilience and strength after a challenging cross-country trip to Hawaii. Despite facing travel snafus and spending extended time in hotels and airports, the Hornets emerged stronger and more united than ever.
Their hard work and bonding paid off as they secured a gritty 17-15 victory over FCS independent Sacred Heart, marking their first win against an FCS opponent since November 2022. Head coach Lee Hull credited the Hawaii trip for bringing the team closer together and building camaraderie that translated into success on the field.
Quarterback Marqui Adams and running back Jaden Sutton led the charge, with Adams throwing for 150 yards and a touchdown, and Sutton rushing for 86 yards, including a crucial 39-yard touchdown run. The Hornets showcased their potential by making key plays in all three phases of the game.
With a well-deserved bye week ahead, the Hornets will regroup and prepare to face Wagner of the Northeast Conference at Alumni Stadium on September 14. The strategic scheduling of the bye week allows the team to rest and recharge before diving back into the season.
Delaware State’s impressive performance against Sacred Heart is a testament to their resilience and determination. As they continue to grow and improve, the Hornets are poised to make a statement in the upcoming games. Fans are encouraged to show their support and cheer on the team as they strive for success on the gridiron.
