Georgia Woman Arrested for Concealing Friend’s Body in Identity Theft Scam

A shocking discovery has rocked the small town of Hogansville, Georgia, as a woman has been arrested almost twenty years after her friend’s dismembered body was found on the side of the road. Angel Marie Thompson is facing charges for concealing the body of her friend, Nicole Alston, as part of an elaborate identity theft scam that spanned nearly a decade.

The case dates back to December 2007 when the remains of an unidentified woman were found inside a burning bag on the roadside. It wasn’t until 2023 that authorities were able to identify the victim as 24-year-old Nicole Alston from New York City through a DNA match.

Alston’s family revealed that their last contact with her was around Thanksgiving 2007, after she had moved to Atlanta with Thompson. While Thompson is not considered a suspect in Alston’s death, she allegedly used her friend’s identity to access social security benefits, food stamps, and housing benefits.

The scheme came to an end in 2015 when the Social Security Administration notified Alston that she needed to reapply for her benefits in person. By then, Thompson had reportedly stolen nearly $200,000 through her fraudulent activities.

Angel Marie Thompson was arrested on August 19 and charged with concealing Nicole Alston’s death. The investigation into Alston’s murder is ongoing, as authorities have yet to identify a suspect in the case. The community remains shocked by the gruesome details that have emerged, and they are eager for justice to be served.
