Kendrick Lamar to Headline Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Grammy-winning artist Kendrick Lamar is set to headline the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans on Feb. 9, 2023. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation made the announcement on Sunday, revealing that Lamar will be leading the halftime festivities at the Caesars Superdome.
Lamar, who has won 17 Grammys, expressed his excitement about bringing hip-hop to the NFL’s championship game. The rapper previously performed as a guest artist at the Super Bowl in 2022 alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, and Eminem.
In a statement, Lamar emphasized the impact of rap music and stated, “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date, and I’ll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one.”
With a successful career that began with his debut album “good kid, m.A.A.d city” in 2012, Lamar has achieved significant milestones, including winning a Pulitzer Prize for his album “DAMN.” in 2017. His latest album, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,” was released in 2022 and featured hit songs like “Like That” and “Not Like Us.”
Roc Nation founder Jay-Z praised Lamar as a “once-in-a-generation” artist and performer, highlighting his influence on global culture. Lamar’s performance at the Super Bowl will be co-executive produced by Roc Nation and Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins, with creative direction provided by pgLang, a company founded by Lamar and Dave Free.
The Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show has become a platform for celebrating music and artists on a global stage. Last year, Usher delivered a star-studded performance with guests like H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, Ludacris, and Alicia Keys. Vice President of Apple Music and Beats, Oliver Schusser, described the halftime show as a celebration of the music we love and the incredible artists who create it.
