KRS-One Calls Out Hip Hop for Lack of Celebration of Legends While Alive
Legendary rapper KRS-One has called out the Hip Hop community for its lack of celebration of its pioneers and legends while they are still alive. In a recent interview with Houston radio station 97.9 The Box, The Teacher expressed his frustration with the way in which Hip Hop only honors its heroes after they have passed away.
KRS-One specifically mentioned the recent passing of DJ Fatman Scoop, emphasizing that the Hip Hop community should have been celebrating him while he was still alive and thriving in his career. The Bronx legend criticized the lack of radio play and recognition that Fatman Scoop received during his lifetime, noting that only a select few DJs acknowledged his talent.
When asked to compare the treatment of Hip Hop legends to that of other genres, KRS-One boldly stated that Hip Hop runs the music industry and should prioritize honoring its own. He dismissed other genres, declaring that Hip Hop does not need validation from them.
The rapper’s passionate plea for the Hip Hop community to show more appreciation for its artists comes in the wake of several recent deaths in the industry, including DJ Polo, Chino XL, BeatKing, Rich Homie Quan, Enchanting, and Foolio. KRS-One’s message serves as a reminder to celebrate and uplift Hip Hop legends while they are still with us, rather than waiting until it’s too late.
