LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Creative Arts Emmy Awards kicked off with a bang as Maya Rudolph and Angela Bassett took home prestigious awards for their outstanding work in television.

Maya Rudolph, known for her versatile talent, won her sixth career Emmy for best character voice-over for her role as the Hormone Monstress on the Netflix animated show “Big Mouth.” Rudolph, a former and future “Saturday Night Live” star, expressed her pride in being part of the show, stating that it humanizes the experience of being human. She tearfully acknowledged the privilege of doing what she loves in her life, jokingly attributing her tears to menopause.

Angela Bassett, a seasoned actress and two-time Oscar nominee, won her first Emmy for best narrator for her work on the National Geographic show “Queens.” Bassett was drawn to the project due to its all-female production team, a rarity in the industry, which touched her heart and led her to accept the role.

Other notable winners included the iconic Pat Sajak, who won best game show host for his final season on “Wheel of Fortune,” and the legendary Dick Van Dyke, who at 99 years old, won for his documentary “Dick Van Dyke 98 Years Of Magic.”

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards set the stage for the main Emmys ceremony, hosted by Dan and Eugene Levy, which will air on September 15th on ABC. With big names like Jamie Lee Curtis, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Ryan Gosling up for awards, the excitement continues to build as the television industry celebrates its finest talents.
