Questlove to Direct Documentary on Earth, Wind & Fire: “Preserving Their Positive and Vulnerable Story”
Questlove, the renowned musician and filmmaker, has announced that he will be directing a documentary about the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire. The news was revealed on September 21, a significant date for the group as it is immortalized in their hit song “September.”
The documentary, which has yet to be titled, will provide exclusive access to the group’s archives and has the full support of the band and the estate of EWF founder Maurice White. Questlove expressed his excitement about being a part of preserving the group’s story of “Soul, Self & Struggle,” highlighting the impact Earth, Wind & Fire has had on him personally.
In addition to his documentary project, Questlove is also working on the first Roots album in many years. He credits Common and Pete Rock’s latest project for inspiring The Roots to finally complete their long-awaited 15th LP. The energy and creativity in the current music scene, including anticipated releases from rap veterans like Nas, Snoop Dogg, and De La Soul, have motivated Questlove and his bandmates to get back in the studio.
Questlove shared on his Questlove Supreme podcast how Common and Pete Rock’s album sparked a renaissance in the music industry and inspired Black Thought to write seven songs in one day for The Roots’ upcoming album. The impact of collaboration and creativity in music is evident in Questlove’s work and the projects he is involved in.
