Janet Jackson Sparks Controversy with Comments on Kamala Harris’ Race

This weekend, Janet Jackson found herself in hot water after making controversial comments about Vice President Kamala Harris’ race. In an interview with The Guardian, Jackson questioned Harris’ race when discussing the possibility of the United States electing its first Black female president.

Jackson reportedly stated, “Well, you know what they supposedly said? she’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian. I haven’t watched the news in a few days, I was told that they discovered her father was white.” Despite the interviewer clarifying that Harris is both Black and Indian, Jackson’s claims align with the false narrative perpetuated by former President Donald Trump.

Social media erupted in response to Jackson’s comments, with many expressing disappointment in the singer’s remarks. TheGrio’s Natasha Alford highlighted the power of disinformation, while others criticized Jackson for perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

Following the backlash, an alleged member of Jackson’s team issued an apology on her behalf. However, Jackson’s representative later clarified that the star did not authorize the statement and that the individual claiming to be her manager was not officially affiliated with her.

In a surprising turn of events, the individual who issued the false apology, Mo Elmsari, revealed that he had been fired by Jackson and her brother Randy. Elmsari expressed his support for Kamala Harris and lamented his dismissal from Jackson’s team.

As of now, Janet Jackson has not issued an official apology for her controversial statements. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible discourse, especially in the lead-up to a pivotal election.
