Top Contenders to Play John Stewart in HBO/DC Studios’ Lanterns Series
The race to become the first Black Green Lantern is heating up in Hollywood, with Aaron Pierre and Stephan James reportedly at the top of the list for the highly anticipated Lanterns series on HBO/DC Studios. According to The Hollywood Reporter, both actors are in contention for the role of John Stewart, with a decision expected to be made soon.
Snowfall star Damson Idris was previously in the running but has since been ruled out, leaving the field open for Pierre and James to battle it out for the iconic role. The chosen actor will join Kyle Chandler, who has already been cast as Hal Jordan, in the series written and executive-produced by Damon Lindelof and Tom King.
Originally set to air on Max, Lanterns has now transitioned to HBO and has received a straight-to-series order, showcasing the excitement surrounding the project. The series will follow a gritty storyline involving Hal Jordan mentoring John Stewart as they investigate a murder mystery in the American heartland, adding a darker twist to the Green Lantern lore.
Casey Bloys, CEO and chairman of HBO and Max Content, expressed his enthusiasm for the series, highlighting the talent behind the project and the unique take on the iconic characters. With the casting decision looming, fans are eagerly awaiting to see who will ultimately don the ring and become the first Black Green Lantern on screen.
