Black Immigrant Rights Leader Criticizes Trump-Vance and Harris-Walz Campaigns

The head of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), Nana Gyamfi, is not holding back when it comes to calling out both the Trump-Vance and Harris-Walz campaigns on their immigration policies. In a recent interview on “The Hill with April Ryan,” Gyamfi criticized the racist conspiracies and policy positions pushed by Republican nominees Donald Trump and JD Vance regarding Haitian immigrants. The advocacy group Haitian Bridge Alliance even filed a criminal complaint in response to the ordeal.

But Gyamfi didn’t stop there. She also had strong words for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, accusing her campaign of being too focused on an “enforcement frame” and not being welcoming to immigrants. Harris recently visited the Arizona-Mexico border to address issues of illegal immigration and drug trafficking, criticizing Trump for his lack of effort in addressing the immigration crisis.

Gyamfi emphasized the need for a complete shift in how political leaders address immigration, particularly for Black migrants. She criticized the Harris-Walz campaign’s call for more surveillance and border agents, stating that current immigration policies do not reflect the opportunity and promise that the United States has historically offered to immigrants.

As for the criminal complaint filed against Trump and Vance, Gyamfi stressed the importance of accountability for all, including political candidates. She emphasized that no one is immune from facing consequences for their actions, even those running for the highest offices in the country.

Overall, Gyamfi’s message is clear: it’s time for a change in how immigration policies are approached, and all political candidates must be held accountable for their actions and rhetoric on the issue.
