Vice President Kamala Harris Addresses Attacks on Her Blackness in Candid Interview

In a recent interview with the popular sports podcast, “All The Smoke,” Vice President Kamala Harris opened up about the attacks on her racial identity that falsely questioned her Blackness. Co-host Matt Barnes, a former NBA player born to an Italian mother and Black father, asked Harris about how she’s been misrepresented by former president Donald Trump.

Harris, whose father is Black Jamaican and mother was Indian, confidently responded, “One, I don’t listen to it. I’m really clear about who I am and if anybody else is not they need to go through their own level of therapy, that’s not my issue.”

The false questioning of Harris’ Blackness was amplified by Trump during the NABJ conference in August. Harris also discussed America’s complex history of race and segregation, highlighting the impact of the “one-drop rule” that classified anyone with African ancestry as Black.

The conversation also touched on the importance of HBCUs, with Harris, an alumna of Howard University, advocating for increased federal funding for these institutions. She also addressed her economic plan for America and how she has handled right-wing political attacks for being a stepmother.
