Family of Botham Jean Calls for Denial of Amber Guyger’s Parole Request

Former police officer Amber Guyger, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 2018 killing of Botham Jean, is now up for parole halfway through her sentence. Jean’s family, particularly his sister Allisa Charles-Findley, is adamantly against Guyger’s early release, calling for the parole board to reject it.

Charles-Findley expressed her disappointment in the light sentence Guyger received for murder, stating that the family has to live with the consequences of her actions for the rest of their lives. She emphasized that Guyger should serve her full sentence as a form of justice for taking Botham away from them senselessly.

While Botham’s brother, Brandt Jean, forgave Guyger after her sentencing, Charles-Findley made it clear that forgiveness does not negate the need for punishment. She stressed that Guyger must serve her full sentence for the crime she committed.

Guyger claimed self-defense in court, but the jury found her guilty of murder. Despite her appeals, the court has not been swayed by her arguments. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is actively opposing Guyger’s parole, with a hearing date yet to be set. If parole is denied, Guyger will remain in prison until 2029.

The tragic killing of Botham Jean sparked outrage and protests, leading to the renaming of the street where he lived in his honor. As the parole decision looms, the Jean family continues to seek justice for their beloved son and brother.
